going to salvage yard for wire harness, anything to look out for?

Going to pick a part next weekend for wire harness for lq4 swap into 1990 silverado,
can anybody give me any heads up on anything, like special tools or dont get this or
be sure and get this, any particular year that is better or worse, I have read up and
know some, like 28X i believe is the black connector, its a 2002 lq4 so cam sensor is in the top at the rear.
Will I need to get any wires from under the dash or is everything I need under the hood?
I'm thinking data connector under the dash, I'm sure there is more.
I appreciate any info, or if anybody knows of a good read, I would appreciate.

Just make sure you remove the complete harness uncut. If possible and u are removing it completely your self from the 6.0 truck, you can go as far as labeling everything as u unplug it. Just be patient in removing the harness. I got mine off Craigslist but the trans harness part was cut off. I had a donor harness also cut up but simply soldered the missing wires and make it standalone. I followed lt1swap.com and even had Brendan from that website do the vats removal and it works fine.

If you can get it, then get it. The main round plug on the trans can be tough to remove at times. You really dont need it for your trans because it is not an electronic trans. You can always de-pin it the best you can to remove it from the main harness and save it for someone that might need it.

I just looked at lt1swap that looks like some good reading, Thanks droopy.

capricefrk, I'm wondering what you mean by this, "The main round plug on the trans can be tough to remove at times". like can not get it out of pickup
complete because of its size, maybe around trans. or something? or hard to unplug? Thanks for the Heads up.

When I went to remove my motor and trans from the donor truck, I started pulling the harness first to get it out of the way and the trans plugs wouldnt unplug without breaking the connectors. So I ended up cutting it to separate from the trans. Once I had the trans on the ground, I had to pry at the plug to get it off the trans. Just saying heads up in case you run in to the same issue I did.

Went to pick a part today, they already had wire harness pulled and put in a bag, labeled, ready to go. 2000 5.3 4l60e 4X4 $150.00. ECM with 0411 service# $75.00
Was really wanting to remove the harness myself so I could label and get a mental, but what can you do. Was able to get some goodies for my other build so that
made me feel good. So I got home, pulled the harness out of the bag, first thing I looked for was the data connector, nope not happening. Oh well I'm sure there will
be other stuff I need, they did not have any electric fans, so my list continues. So now off to lt1swap.com for some serious reading
