no , you'll need to swap out the output shaft and get a tailhousing.
i'm sure the trans is good if it was running when pulled.
    all of them are compatible.

Is it true that in order to replace the tailhousing and the output shaft I have to remove all of the internals?
Which converter wwould you recommend for the swap Yank or Circle d?
Can the stock 4l80e handle around 500hp without failure?

    Thanks Allen

well , anything connected to the output shaft needs to be removed, so ya, pretty much.
i like both companies for converters, they both run great, i run a yank 2800 in mine and love it, it boost/brake stalls to 3400-3600, but drives perfectly fine and i tow with it.
yes, just install a shiftkit and no problem. i've been running around with my stock unmodded 80e since the flt broke, no issues and i have it shifting just right and firm enough.

Thanks for the info. I actually ended up selling the 80e because i didn't hsve the money for the build so I'll just have to do it later. I just put a vette servo in yesterday, I'll be puting in the sshift kit tomorrow. On the 4l60e hd2 kit can I put in all 3 spacers without screwing the trans up? I ordered a tune from you that has the shift kit programmed in the pcm, will the use of the shift kit without the nelson tune mess the trans up?

All of them are compatible? I'm puzzled. I heard just the 80e's with the bolt hole on the top of the bell housing are compatible. It seems there are an abundance of older 80e's (w/o the bolt hole) in my area, but none with the top bolt hole. hmmmm. I would likke to know the answer to this

OK I just bought a 80e today. It has the top hole (thanks Allen and Red for clarifying the situation). I dunno if I should have bought it because when I took the tail shaft plastic cover off, a very dark red came out. it was almost black. So now I'm wondering if the clutches etc. are burnt up. I paid $600 for it so I don't think it was a bad deal even if I have to rebuild it. '
WHat tools other than basic sockets, prybars, etc. would I need in order to rebuild it?

From what I've seen, almost all salvage yard transmissions have dark fluid. I never had one that wasn't good, so I'd get it install, drain the fluid and run it for about 20miles, then change the fluid again.
These transmissions can take a lot of mileage and abuse.

Ok cool! I was kinda worrying being that I have very minimal transmission knowledge. Is there a reccomended tranny flush that I should use before I put the dex 6 in?

    Allen,
Are all the part numbers on your How to 4l60e to 4l80e swap from GM part numbers?
Also the "80e gear selector cable bracket" doesn't have a PN
Driveshaft: Will a nnbs extended cab HD driveline work without being altered to fit my truck (nnbs crew cab 5'8" bed) after I install the 80e transmission?
