    piston slap? something to be worried bout?...i know what it is and all but doesnt sound to good....should i be worried?

    If you have piston slap you should be able to tell by the oil consumption. If your truck doesn't use any oil between changes, your problem may be a lifter not pumping up. If it does have piston slap, just don't drive it hard until it goes away. The piston warms up and expands to fit the bore. My vortec suburban has had this for 4 years and no trouble yet (140k). I drive it pretty hard on occasion towing and stuff.

    I had this with the 5.3 that I removed with 90k. I should tear it down and mic the bores just to see what the tolerances are. I just assumed it was a lifter, but I have been wrong before...

    These motors do use oil thought too.

    Something about vaporizing and being sucked in through the intake......Pretty sure there was a post on it.

    If it ain't broke don't fix it.
