I dunno if you have met Jons dog. That is one smart dog. It does the '' Bang I'm dead'' trick. It will drop a toy at your feet, so you can throw it. If you say... '' I cant reach it'' the dog will pick it up and put it in your hand. Also its a Frisbee freak.

Thanks... He is unique for sure. I am in the process of breaking his habit that allot of pups have. Grabbing things with his mouth. He doesnt bite you, he like, grabs with his mouth, not applying pressure. I just don't want guests to think he bites, when he doesnt.

Lab's are very "mouthy" due to being retrievers. It's like a person using a hand. Not saying it can't be curbbed, but they tend to have that tendency more than the average dog.

He is learning... Its funny, because he will forget, then remember right when he opens his mouth. He will quickly close his mouth and lick me. And play it off like thats all he was going to do. I think once we get over that hurdle and he gets a little older, it will be fine. I wanna teach him to ride in the back of the truck, and only get out when I open the tail gate and tell him.

You're starting when he's young, so that's good.

My girl dog (she's 11) will do that with treats on her nose - cracks me up.

How did you teach her? I'M trying but right now he knows not to touch the treat, until I tell him okay. But if you move it toward his face, he will move his head away. Maybe Im teaching him wrong?

Nice dog man. He's doing really good for four months. I think labs are the best companion dogs you can have. Are you planning on hunting with him or just a family dog?

Different dogs, different personalities. Mines always been really teachable and just learns very quickly.

Maybe start by not having treats - just hold his head until he's used to you moving in and touching it without him moving. Once he gets that, just move in with a treat and if he moves tell him to stay and pull the treat away. Just keep doing it - he'll get it. I'll get a video of Saber doing it.

Dog training is about repetition. Labs are highly trainable, so you shouldn't have much trouble.

I have a golden retriever and about the easiest thing to teach him was to get the paper (yes I'm that lazy). Get strange looks from people like "I only thought they did that in disney movies". I guess it's because of the whole retrieving instinct

I might do some hunting... He is a little young right now, But I need to go shooting with him to see how he reacts. Friends lab would wait until you fired, then look down range to see if you got anything. It tried to bring a deer back to us but the deer was too heavy to move. He tried though.

Awesome looking dog Jeff and clearly being trained very well.

One of my good friends has a lab - he does similar tricks, great dog and very smart! He ABSOLUTLY HATES guns/gun shots. Its to the point that if Im at his house and pull my CC out to set it on the counter or something, and the dog sees, he's in hiding for the next 10-15 minutes until he's sure its not going to go off!
