The main Benefit of having a T56 is it can take more power... Stock its suppose to beable to take 750 hp.... The stock nv3500 is only good up to 280 hp i believe... So even if you upgrade the clutch or something on the NV3500, there's still parts in there that will break after enough high power abuse

(disregarding the freak transmissions that will take more power, and the clutch too.... Like some of those trucks, where you can put too of the same stock trucks next to each other, and one will be faster than the other)

.... The T56 on the other hand will be good..... For me too i'd like to eventually put a 6.0 in my truck, or maybe a duramax, and i'll won't have to worry about my tranny at all.

I thought nv3500's were rated higher than that. But I'm on the look out for a t-56 myself hopefully I soon I can use your guide and make the whole process a little easier.
It's true I think RST does stand for Real Slow Truck.

what would possess you to take a trans to Aamco?

usually a 40k mile trans should only need a fluid change

I took my trans to AAMCO, because they said they would do the whole swap for 200$.... Like swap my nv3500, and put in my t56 ready to run for 200$... I gave them all the parts i had and so basically i was just paying labor... but it didn't work that way.

well i have well over 500 ft lbs on my t56 and it takes it like a cherry. Most manual transmissions are very strong, most of the time when the break its from driver error. As long as your not going for crazy amounts of power i wouldn't worry about it. 4:56+ gears 6.0 liter, t56, and a nice ls7 clutch you'll be good to go. Unless your F/I or have some big bucks in a 6.0 your not gonna get anywhere close to enough juice to bust a t56 IMO

ya... there's no way my little 4.8l is going to be putting out 400lbs of torque... So for right now, i think this tranny will hold up great, then in like a year or so i'll build a motor, or put a 6.0 in it, and have the tranny upgraded at the same time....
