Its that time. Ready to order a harness today. Im leaning toward Allens harness from Nelson performance. Allen says ditch the 98 pcm and use a 99-02. I would like some first hand feedback from someone who has one, good or bad.

I have a 2002 harness but it's my own not Allen's. The 99-2002 has the benefit of a faster internal processor. The 98 PCM was only used in 97-98 Fbody and Corvettes and are not the best choice. I've done two conversions and would definitely recommend the 99+ PCM with 2002 being the 1st choice. An additional bonus is they look better. The 98 PCM is butt ugly solid cast aluminum. The 99+ has a nice shiny cover. You'll also want the transmission wiring if you're going with a 4L60E. You can transfer your stock trans wiring from your old harness if you pay attention to the 2002 PCM layout.

I have the '98 ecm and all I personally know that is wrong with it is that some of the programming software out there(Predator) isn't compatible. Which in my opinion is enough to upgrade to a later model. My local shop can't dynotune it bacause they have the predator software, so I either have to drive hundreds of miles for a dynotune or get a mail order tune which I've already had done and my A/F ratio is way lean.

have you thought about buying Hptuners and learning to tune yourself? i am learning to use it as we speak, awesome software! You would be the one in control of everything going on in the PCM so you would know whats going on and make changes yourself.

yes, you can do it yourself and yes, you can screw it up yourself if you're not careful. Some amatuer tuners have destroyed engines while messing with the tune. All I can say it be very careful if you do it yourself and definitely buy the O2 interconnect cable so you can watch the tune and not lean it out and burn your engine up. It's worth the extra money for peace of mind.

ya what he said, plus when you add up the cost of a laptop and the cost of HPtuners compared to the price of a good dynotune ($350) I'm not sure it's worth it. Although it would be nice to make adjustments for future upgrades.

Well, I havent much thought of doing my own programing. I already use a laptop. How much is the software and cable? How good do you have to be with computers? A computer programer I am not however, I have stayed in a
Holiday Inn Express and I can usually set our vcr clock.
