Thread: CNG 6.0 Burb

    CNG 6.0 Burb

I just picked up a 03 3/4 ton 4x4 6.0 Suburban with a CNG kit on it last night! It cost me 26.00 dollars to drive it home 320 miles! It is a pig for sure the dang thing won't hold 85 up some of the passes without a trailer. I was planning on using it to haul the fam around in comfort on some dune trips with the quads. I guess its time for some mods.

I am wondering if this motor is running right it is really weak seems to run ok just no performance. This is my first experience with natural gas and a 6.0 for that matter. I have heard you lose a little power with natural gas but i can't tell a difference when I run it on gas. I think all the stuff on my Sierra will work on the Burban! I have a whipple, headers and allens whipple upgrade kit.

Really be careful about boost on CNG get a good live tune if you are going that route. I am sure a whipple will get what you are looking for on power.

Is this a sequential injection kit or the universal one?

I had both, and I can tell you, on LPG, the universal is too restrictive, and run normal but under powered, and the sequential was a great kit, but limited to the pressure that was on the tank for delivering! So if you want to go Boosted, you might well look for a pump, if such a thing exists.

Allen Nelson tune one of my LPG Trucks, with Heads and cam, and it always drove great !!!!

Only thing was that the tank, on the stock engine was good for 400Miles, and after mods it was only good for 220 miles top.

Also, CNG and LPG don't forgive Electrical problems (spark plugs, cables, coil, etc......) and also take a high toll on this parts.

Still 220 miles was great on 10 bucks the tank !!!!! and running real good !!!

Wow you lost that much mileage thats crazy. I would expect the normal improvements with just bolt-ons. Are the aftermarket kits any good for cng bc the factory ones are expensive!

Yeah it is sequential injection. Did Allen tune yours at his shop or was it mail order? I am going to keep her pretty mild 5lbs of boost. I might lose a bit with the mods for mileage but it should be well worth it at 1.27 a gallon! The only thing I am worried about is the tune. The closest shop out here is in vegas for gasser tuning 1.5 hours.
