    4L60e to 6L80e in a GMT-900

this is basically a copy and paste guys, but i hope that this can help someone else.

    just and FYI:
i am not responsible for your setup being more difficult than mine or your truck cant work with my part numbers/write up. this is just a guide for the guys who want to try and possibly have the know how to do so. i will do my best to go into detail/picture everything i can. if you have any questions, feel free to pm and i will help the best i can. once again, i am not a GM Tech or any Master Mechanic, just your simple do it yourself kinda guy

first off you have to buy the transmission :eyes:
try and get with it the converter/slip yoke! the slip yoke is 225.00 at gmpartsdirect
converter can range from 775-1300 depending what you want/buy.

if you do not get the cooler lines with the transmission you will need:
P/N 25999419 its 105.00 from the dealer, or 60.00 from gmpartsdirect
the 60/65/70e dipsticks are not the same size, way bigger* its like 13.00
you also need the Flexplate (i think) for the 6spd im not sure if its the same bolt pattern as the 60/65/70e flexplate.
    p/n: 20822436 2009 5.3/6l80e/4wd 190.00
    GM PART # 20822437 170.00 2009 5.3/6L80e/2wd this is the one i ordered
P/N 15251488 transmission cooler line block seal
    P/N 25879175 transmission dipstick tube
P/N 15831435 shift linkage bracket *YOU HAVE TO MODIFY THIS 1/2" IF YOU KEEP YOUR 60e SHIFTER CABLE*
    p/n 15877378 dipstick
    P/N 89060436 rear main seal

21153 is the u-joint part number i used on the slip yoke to front driveshaft. i have a 2 peice driveshaft that uses 1330 u-joints. this is for the guys using a 99-02 driveshaft. if you are running a stock 1 peice that came in the truck all you need is a 1350 to 1350 u-joint. my new driveshaft isnt going to be using this set up.

    Tools Needed:
8mm socket *relay on the starter*
    10mm socket *battery post*
11mm wrench *rear end u-joint caps*
13mm socket *starter bolts, 3 nuts that hold the fuel lines, vent line, dipstick*
    14mm socket *12v on starter I THINK*
15mm socket *transmission bolt, the 7 bolts that hold the transmission in*
17mm or 18mm socket depending your converter bolts. mine are 13mm
13/16 socket and wrench *transmission crossmember bolts*
    7/8 wrench *o2 sensor(s)*
zipties IF you want to clean the harness up and keep it away from the exhaust/motor
    6" extension
    flathead screw driver
    2lbs hammer
    prybar
    4' extension for the transmission
    Loc-Tite
1 gallon ziploc and electrical tape for the tail housing so you dont spill too much fluid
small flathead to pull the clips out of the cooler lines
    transmission jack
    3 ton jack
2x4x12" so you can jack the tranmission up to pull the transmission mount

i may be missing a few things.

as you can tell they dont use the same transmission cooler lines like the 60/65/75/80e
im going to try and find a stock cooler line set up and go from there.

i can buy this block with -6AN fittings and run my own lines, but then use AN compression fittings to make it tie into my current lines. that's an option BUT when the line from gmpartsdirect is only 60.00 i dont see the fuss in it. i have to order more parts anyways through them so why not just order the lines too.

alright just an update for today. the harness came in, and i got to look at it. couldnt notice any real difference UNTIL i started to examine the harness closer to my stock harness. there is only a few things you have to change/repin on this new harness. dont be scared, IF you are going to take on the task of installing a 6spd in your truck then you shouldnt be scared to repin/cut and solder this harness.

look how good the dealer did this harnes, it was worth the 200ish i paid.

    the famous TCM plug

Fuel pump harness on the new harness

my OEM harness. please notice how they arent the same pigtails. SAME color wires but the plug is bigger on the new one vs mine.

peel back the tape, and loom and get to the wires.

oil sensor plug on the new harness

your oem oil sensor plug. do the same thing as you did with the fuel pump plug. its all the same colors. FYI this is the same Sensor i had on my 08 5.3 that i swapped to the 6.2 the newer oil sensor must just be different

this is the 12v relay plug on the new harness, my starter isnt like this. just depin it and cut the clip off as close to the end as you can

install a new eye crimp and shrink wrap it.

ALSO the MAP sensor on the new harness is different, i forgot to get a pic of it. i had an old harness from my 94 5.3 swap so i cut the MAP sensor pigtail off and cut the new harness back about 2". i then soldered the new pigtail in and shrink wrapped it then taped it up like it came from the factory. you can just go to the dealer/part store an buy the 09 MAP sensor to work with the harness if you are scared to cut it.

the new harness is installed, i moved the 12v lead from by the frame/LT area and ran it straight down under the motor mount for a straight shot to the starter (it has enough room)

i changed the rear seal, and installed the flexplate. im done for the day im tired. i only got 2hrs sleep today before i started running around chasing parts/working on this.

as for the transmission mount, i turned it around and drilled a new hole and its working fine! the crappy thing is i bought a car 6L80e vs a truck 6L80e but i took a T-400 bolt in yoke and had it modified to work.

also you CAN NOT flash a 09 tune into an 08 ecm, it'll fry it lol. i used a 08 Denali vin to get a new ecm and have it reflashed through the dealer to work. they changed the vin in the TCM also and now i have the use of my Tow/Haul vs not having anything. the Manual buttons do not work so i guess they go through the BCM, im not really sure as of now. ill get to doing more research later on and see what that brings up. the transmission temp does work like its suppose to.

the truck is up and running awsome! i love that i took this project on, it was well worth it imo.

i turned it around and drilled a hole.

also the MAF harness is different, i had to repin it. ive put 600 miles on it since ive completed it and i dont regret it one bit. the good thing about the 6spd an 4:10s it DD's way better than when i had the 4spd an a 3600 converter
