1993 to 2003 brake conversion
I apologize if this isn't the correct section for this, but there is no area that really has anything to do with brakes. Being that this is a conversion to an ls truck style brake system i figured this section was ok.
Hey everyone, so I was working on a 2003 yukon today and couldnt help but notice the nice aluminum dual piston calipers that come on the front and then noticed how remarkably similar the steering knuckle is to my 1993 yukon. I have been wanting to upgrade my pathetically undersized brakes for a while since i tow a lot. So after a couple minutes of staring and thinking I thought to myself, "why can't i swap all of my brake parts out with parts from a 2003?" I am wondering if anyone else has tried this. I am thinking that I can replace my knuckles with ones from a 2003 and then all the brake parts. Same goes for the rear. I want to replace my drum brakes with backing plates/calipers from the 2003. I havent had the opportunity to sit two knuckles side by side and measure the tie rod/ball joint holes but it looks the same. The only difference i see is that the tie rod mounts upside down, not a big deal. I think the camber offset on the upper/lower bj holes are going to be the same because the 2003 takes the same cv axles that my truck takes. Let me know what you guys think of this idea. Basically I am looking to convert my truck to 4 wheel disc brakes with dual-piston cals and drilled/slotted rotors for about $1200. Far less expensive than just a FRONT kit from someone else.
