So about how much power/torque will a 60's input and output shaft tolerate in a 5200lbs truck?? I'm more concerned with the output shaft cuz I've seen them snap fairly easily even in F-Bodies.

~ Forged engine of some type ~ Ball bearing turbo of an unconfirmed size ~ 4L8000 trans ~ Beefy fuel system ~
I've seen several snapped, in a fairly stock cc 4.8. Think it had a hotcam and 2800 stall
2003 SIERRA- 5.3 DD
1985 SWB C10- slow, future plans- shaved, painted, 6.0/4l80e
Doesn't take much especially if its a 2 piece. Ive seen guys use the shafts out of the HD's and been happy with them.
gm rates them at 450 hp stockers..
but i highly thought it* i am on my 3rd output shaft.

they rate them at 450 hp? Maybe on a 3800 lb car but not a 5000+ lb truck. get an 80e.![]()

Red, I wish to God that I could swap in an 80E however for the following reasons I cannot
1 - I'm a fulltime college student and I barely have time to eat
2 - I know the swap would cost some $$$, again, I'm a fulltime college student so I don't have much $$$
3 - I've never swapped an 80E for 60E
4 - I don't have a place to do an 80E swap and I'd get charged an arm, leg and probably a shoulder blade if I paid someone to do it

Are the transmission rebuilds after breaking the shaft free? Sorry to hear the financial difficulty, been there done that.

Does your truck have a 1 or 2 piece driveshaft? If its a 2 piece, do you have the spacer block under the carrier bearing installed?

Oh it's cool Red, no apology necessary. You do have a good point about the trans rebuilds but believe it or not, I just cruise around and I stay on low boost most of the time. Therefore my transmission is holding up just fine. If I take it to the track, however, that would be a different story. If I happen to break that output shaft, I figure I'd just put an upgraded output shaft in it which would be the cheapest fix and the next best thing to an 80E. Hopefully an upgraded output shaft will handle the power im making on hi boost. Right now my truck is basically a school bus and grocery getter.
The drive shaft is a 2 piece and since my truck is lowered, the carrier bearing bracket has been moved up to keep alignment in the driveshaft. This is kinda funny how you've chimed in on my transmission issues once again. Thanks tho

you should feel the abuse my trans gets, the 80e bangs between every gear even when going slow and I've never broke a shaft in it. I did mess up a roller clutch set internally after about 300 launches on the bottle at the strip.I changed the design of how the roller clutch works internally and haven't had any issues since.
Maybe you need to put the stock servos back in the trans to keep from killing shafts?
