Need some info on a swap

Hey guys, I got a 96 swb truck that has a vortec v6 5speed that iam going to be putting a 98 vortec v8 auto trans. What iam needing to know is what all do I need to make this swap painless. I want all the stock gages to work iam also going to be changing the colom out for the auto trans. I do know I will need the motor mounts an some of the normal stuff.

I called Nelson's to get a new PCM flashed to the new motor so I got that covered. I really need to know will the the trans crossmember out of my truck work. Do I need to move my motor mounts forward. Where do I need to unplug the motor wiring harness at

The vortec v8 iam putting in this truck isn't stock so far this is what it has
    scat 6" rods full floating
    srp forged flat top pistons
    stock crank
    comp cam muther tumper cam
    comp cams roller rockers
    stock heads (maybe)
    stock intake

iam open to info to make this motor better!!!

Your going to use a 98 motor? Why not a gen3?

I got some of my dirt track motor parts just setting so I was just going to put a motor together plus the cost of long tube heads an all the parts to install a gen3 motor

yeah it adds up. But I think the gen 3 is a better starting point. Good luck with the swap. Most of us here have ls.

its not going to be cheap. But if you do decide to go LS. Get a complete pullout. Like a 6.0 with a 4l80e attached to it. you can find them sometimes for $1k-2k$ depending on the year and mileage. Then you will need motor mounts, harness, possibly a driveshaft. But dont make the mistake I did and buy an incomplete short block. Bolts can go for $4-$12 a piece. And there are a lot of bolts. Make sure motor is in good shape. I had to have mine torn down because the cam bearing were shot. To get it done with a stock motor and tranny, doing it yourself, look at spending about $3k-$4k.

yeah I got a guy next door to my shop that has a 5.3 but it is buckets lol and the cheapest I can find a motor around me is $2500+ with trans then I got to buy all the other stuff so doing that cheap is out the window lol

I think I can build the 98 vortec to put out 450hp an that's all iam really looking for. But don't get me wrong, if I had a gen3 fall in lap real cheap I would go that way.
