    HELP rear end

If i put my truck in reverse, and turn the front wheels at all, when I'm backing up my driver rear tire just kinda skips, while the passenger side turns.

SOMETIMES it does it going forward (after backing up)...it's been doing it a couple weeks, but seems to be getting worse. It's tearing up my rear tires. I been on the truck a little, but no more then I have the entire time i've owned it. This rear end came out of a truck in junkyard, has less then 50k on it with a 3.73 g80 locker. old rear was a 3.42 open with 130k miles, never had a problem.

Do you think this is just my g80 and the heavy/large tires, or should i be worried? What should I check first? The inside looks normal to my untrained eye. No play in driveshaft, etc.

I say the clutches are going bad. I know G80 aren't a fan of large tires along with a lot of other things.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

That's the G80 locking up. Not sure if that means is going out, but sometimes mine will do that if the driveway is slick, or has gravel on it.

what's the chance the g80 will BOOM and leave me stranded.... vs g80 BOOM and back to 1 tire fire?

4.56 locker has been on the list for a while...but at $1800, it keeps dropping back to the bottom

I don't think it will leave you with 1 tire fire, usually they like to explode out the rear cover.

That can happen as well. Its really a toss up. Its not something to take lightly.

Another thing to consider--more often than not, when the LSD explodes, it usually takes out the tranny with it. I would suggest going ahead (while everything is still intact) and installing a Detroit TrueTrac. Replacing a carrier is pretty easy. I would suggest buying one from Ron's Machining Service.

my g80 has done this about 10 times but never has done it on the factory wheels/tires.i pulled the cover after it done this a couple times and everything looked fine.g80 must not like oversized wheels/tires.
Nothing stock...I either broke it or replaced it before I broke it!!

    i changed the fluid...LOOKS ok

made sure it was filled to the top, looked a LIL low before I emptied it.

i keep hearing different stories about how much to put in there with synthetic vs conventional fluid. I used the lucas 80-90, and squirted til it was coming out fill hole. Seems better...just dont touch gas in reverse. calling for prices on rebuild tomorrow.

I just did some reading and apparently the G80 doesn't like oversized tires.

A rebuild isn't necessary. I would just run it and see if the fluid makes the difference. If not, replacing the carrier is prolly gunna be your best bet. Have you ever replaced a carrier before?
