    Lifter Noise

Here's the deal. Everything seems normal and runs fine but if I get into and run hard for say an 1/8 mile, within 30 seconds (what sounds like a lifter) begins getting gradually louder. It increases and decreases with RPM and stays pretty loud for about 5-10 minutes. Then it just goes away and sounds normal again. I already replaced the lifters once with regular OEM's about a month ago. I think when I swap heads I'm going to go with LS7's but what could be causing this?? I run a 15-40 Royal Purple as well. Thoughts??

??? Not sure. Every now and then a lifter gets caught not pumping up. Its weird. I have heard of this happening every now and then, but from the people who have had this problem and ran their vehicle, they have not had any issues--just a ticking noise. I wouldn't be scared--just run them until you change out heads. Make sure to get some LS7 lifters or CTS-V lifters. The Caddy lifters will handle a slightly higher RPM range and be a touch quieter in operation as well.

That's what I figured but want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen even if I switch to the LS7's. Is it possible to have messed up a pushrod or flattened a cam lobe? I guess if that was the case it would be making the noise all of the time....

I had a problem similar to your, it would only start taping when I drove it hard or i towed somthing. But once I let it idle for a little it would go away. I thought is was my lifters also, but once i changed my lifter and the tap still came i knew it was somthing else. I found that the pick up tube o ring was pinched, So i replace that o ring and now every thing is good and the knock went away. Im pritty sure it the rockers not getting oil.

i have constant lifter noise, my solution is. . . Ignore it.
it only needs to last a few more months. then it'll be 6.0l time

remember with LS7 lifters they have a higher internal cup. So pushrod lenght will need to be checked. PPl have found out that when using a LS7 lifter and 7.4 PR you put to much preload on the lifter it then tends to collapse. a 7.375 is actually right PR to use when using the LS7 in a application calling for 7.4s.

Ive found this out to be true from experience. I tore apart my motor cause i had a lifter tick and after research had found out the issue with LS7 lifters and their added cup height

if you search LS1tech youll find plenty of topics of this in the Gen3 internal section
    2002 Lightning - GT headed 5.5Litre w/ Twin 7665s
    2002 Silverado - 427Lsx w/ Twin gt4202s
    2010 Silverado crewcab Z71 - 5.3litre w/ procharger
    2000 Wrangler - 5.3litre with some stance
    2014 Xsport- 3.5 Eco boost

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference
