    Unhappy converter problems... i think

my 04 2wd has 79,xxx on it and in 4th and sometimes in 3rd the rpm's will run up then down up and down, it really gets irritating on long drives, it has been tuned/programmed (done before i got it) so dont know if that matters. just sounds like the converter is locking then unlocking over and over again. My z71 doesn't do this. so any ideas??

may be a bad temp sensor in the tranny...mine was doing the exact same thing...it would read 120 degrees and run at normal rpms, then the temp sensor would tell the computer it was -30 degrees and it would then jump the rpms up, trying to warm it up(thinking its cold)

my z71 is frigging sunk in creeks for ours at a time and held wot bout 90% of its life and has 200k on it and never misses a lick.

Is there not anything else? Maybe even somethin i could try to stop it.

Could also be a slipping band. That's my vote. How's your 1-2 shift? Any delay/bump involved?

1-2 shift barks the rear tires, even when your not on it. so really strong shift no delay or slippin there.

I get them in for 3-4 clutches and 2-4 bands (as well as broken sprags and sunshells) with under warranty with less than 30K miles. There are always runs of components that have problems. The 05-06 3-4 clutch problems are usually caused by poor machining on the pump where the input housing goes through. This wears the sealing rings on the input housing and lowers holding pressure on 3-4. Just an example.

I would fix it if it's stock and unmolested. Never know what you're gonna get with a used or previously rebuilt unit.
