Thread: 6.0 4l80e now..Very Weird Problems

  1. #1

    6.0/4L80E Swap, Electrical problems now.

I have a real big problem and wanted to know if anyone could help me out. I just received my truck yesterday I had a 6.0 swap with a 4l80e tranny. The guy who did my swap says he completely swapped everything from the other truck, which is a 2000 chevy silverado 2500 and mine is a 1999 silverado. He says he changed the fusebox harness, tranny harness, he even changed my steering column. The problem is when it's in "Park" everything is fine, but as soon as I give it some gas in "Drive", everything electrical in my truck flickers on and off. Headlights and even gauge cluster? When I go full throttle the engine bogs. Everything electrical turns completely off for a while. I called the guy back, he said to bring it down to him and he'd take a look at it. Unfortunately I live in Pasadena, and he is in Humble so its kinda hard for me to drive it that far in its current condition.

EDIT: Actually any hard movements of the truck makes everything go off except the motor..which makes me feel even more like its a ground that is not grounded very well.

Sounds like you may be correct, bad ground or battery connection. Also check the tightness of the alternator wire. You may be out there a while checking all the connections, there are quite a few to double check.

Yea I checked the battery cable and that wasn't the problem. Havent tried the alternator ground yet though. Could you perhaps upload a picture showing the ground points since I really dont know were there all at. If its not too much of a problem.

They have grounds on the back of the engine on both sides from the factory. If he did a full swap they should still be there. There's a couple on the core support under the LH headlamp. There's also one on the frame near the body mount behind the LF tire.

He changed steering column so he could use the 2500's pcm. I told him about reflashing it but he insisted on switching it instead. I dropped the truck off at his shop today, hopefully everything turns out ok. He said he'd call me when it's ready. I'm hoping it comes out good.
