Brakes

ok so at 40000 km (bout 23000 miles) my brakes have gone for sh*t, which is bs it doesnt have nearly enough miles for this to happen and it's not like they get abused, but anyway pads wore down, calipers seized and the rotors got warped. So i'm replacing everything, I'm not asking how to do them hell thats a piece of cake but I'm wondering if the 6 lug 2500's maybe had some better parts on them and if they would fit my 1500 ('06 17" wheels) or maybe SS parts (if there's a difference I have no idea). Any help you guys could give would be great

EDIT: Also how do I clear that annoying warning just as I shut the truck off, "service brake system"

If you have big plans for your truck such as high power mods do a big brake upgrade kit. Other than that you can get remanned calipers from your auto store for cheap. If you dont want to go that route, several good companies offer better calipers. Switch your rotors to slotted/cross drilled. Either or both are better than stock. Hawk semi metallic pads are some of the best in the market. I have raybestos quiet stop ceramics and they feel pretty good. The upgrade kits are expensive but they give you rotors, calipers, pads, and lines.

what year tuck is that? when they swapped to drums in 05 they went to larger front rotors using PBR calibers. the 99-04 trucks had issues with brakes failing early between 20k and 30k. mine went at 27k and friends went at 22k

Did GM cover this under warranty?

Not sure about the message. I'd pretty much have to see it and have a scanner, etc. to catch it.

The problem with the brakes is very odd. The 99+ trucks can typically go over 200K without front brake service. My Blazer has a similar yet smaller system that has 206K+ miles. The only thing I have seen that would cause this is contaminated fluid. At some point in time, if someone mistakenly put a petroleum based fluid (P/S fluid is most common) into the brakes, the seals swell and eventually the calipers lock up enough to cause damage or even a lack of acceleration.

Take the lid off the maaster cylinder and see if the lid's seal is swollen and distorted.

I've never seen any 99+ with worn front brakes before 60K and even that is rare. I can see how some of these street/strip trucks would have accelerated wear but your brakes should have lasted forever.

my stock brakes lasted 50k, i put on bear rotors and hawk pads with russel stainless lines much better with my stock calipers

At least put stainless braided lines and good pads. I bought a bear brake kit 1500 bucks and it was worth every penny. I have avoided more than one crash with those brakes that would have killed my truck otherwise.

Our customers work in the oil fields and on ranches. It's pretty much as tough as any DD roads.

i put baer drilled and slotted rotors on the front on my truck and it was a total difference. eventually i wanna do the rear disc conversion from ssbc. kiss another 1500$ good bye haha it never ends...
