The LT1 is going to be easier to get in, the ls1 will require a bit of fabrication.
How big is your budget and what's your goal?
The ls1 has more potential for less money, imo, but both engines will be miles ahead of the tbi engine,

hey allen.
lets say i dont have budget, what kind of fabrication will the ls1 need? and how much easier will the lt1 be to install? i'm new to this, and reading about your truck really inspired me, and to know that my truck can have potential to kick some Hemi ass. i really want to pursue this swap, and i am going to need all the help i can get.
thanx allen
Jacob
If you want to whoop some hemi ass, i say go for the ls1. It's not really harder to install, just that it won't go right in like the lt1, but no biggy, get you some mounts and you're set.
The ls1 has a little head start on power, and should move your truck pretty fast.
I would say the whole project could be done for less than 5K.
Really the only fabbing is the mounts and cutting your frame so that the ac compressor will fit.
thanks, keep the questions coming,

where can i get the motor mount brackets for the ls1?
is there any way i can move the ac compressor to another location instead of cutting the frame?
does the lt1 fit directly to the original mounts?
do i have to cut the frame for the ac compressor for the lt1?
how hard is it to install the PCM?
srry about the questions allen.
thanx allen

Jacob.....
Here's my thoughts.................
Question # 1.......... Street & Performance
Question # 2.......... Same answer or prefab your own AC mounts
Question # 3.......... with the help of S & P's brackets
Question # 4.......... Yes if you keep it in original location, weld notch hole back up
Question # 5.......... Installing the PMC is easy, it's the wiring (if you do it yourself),
that is hard, S & P plus a few more companies
have wiring harness that is a 4 wire hookup. But
remember you have gauges and none of these harness
use the gauges. We bought a Dakato Digital dash and
solved all of our gauge problems. I use thge VSS out of the
PCM for the speedo, tach out for the tach and added orignal
temp sending unit to engine for gauge. New fuel pump in
tank, added return line to fuel rail and used orignal fuel pump
relay. We went a little farther, we used the VATS key from
the donor car for anti-theif. Go to www.webshots.com and
search ' Big Bodie pic' and look at the 90 Chevy red truck.

If you don't mind me asking, how much were those front accessories from S&P?
LS1s make great power but you pay the price for them. You can go hog wild on a LT1 Corvette motor for a lot less money and make the same if not more horsepower since you will save about 40 percent on aftermarket parts. The LT1 blocks can be bored if needed in the future unlike the LS1 which is a disposable block with only about .005" allowable overbore. I just pulled a LT1 out of my truck and it was the easier of the two conversions to do. Took me a total of three weeks, working evenings in the dead of winter, to complete the install and be 100% on the road again. I did it all in the driveway and garage at my home. The only fancy equipment required to do the conversion was an engine hoist. The rest was just hand tools. Everything bolts right up and you can use the transmission you already have, unless you have a newer Vortec V8 or LS1. The Corvette accessories all work perfect in a conversion, plenty of clearance. A new A/C line would have to be made but everything else bolts right up.
If I were to build a drag motor it would be the LT1 with a SCAT stroker crank, rod and piston kit. I would buy the LT4 heads and intake kit from GMPARTSDIRECT.COM. The 92 and 93 PCMs are easily programmed without reallly expensive hardware. Of course everything that could be friction/heat coated would be having that done, too.
Some days I wonder why I bothered to convert to LS1.....oh, saving weight with the aluminum block, that's it. Oh, and keeping up with the Joneses.

hey guys,
sorry i have'nt posted anything for the past few weeks.
GREG_92_C1500_2001_LS1_A4- so with the lt1 i dont have to fabricate any motar mounts right, its just take off and put on right. i wanted to ask you if i could use the pcm that the truck has, or would it be better if i got the pcm with the lt1? i founda 94 firebird formula which was was wrecked from behind and they want $1800. the motor has 55000 miles on it. if i buy it i would first put an lt4 hot cam, 1.6 roller rockers, polish and port the heads befor i do the swap. the aircon, would i have to fabricate some brackets or will it work in the original location? and the tranny, will my 700r4 work or will it be better if i swaped the tranny too? i would really appretiate if you guys would help me. thanx
jacob
The a/c in a f-body lt1 will not work in the truck conversion. See Street and Performance for brackets or get the vette accessories. I am not too sure about the 94 computer. I got a new chip from S & P that had the VATS removed. I plugged it in and it started right up after I merged the LT1 and V6 harnesses together. The motor mounts are exactly the same as a standard old world chevy V8. You will have to have the LT1 harness and PCM since the ignition uses optispark. The 700r4 should work fine with it. You may have to change out the connector but it will bolt right up. My harness had a 5 pin connector that looked like the bolt pattern on a wheel, most others have a different shape. I guess it was the vette harness. It didn't hurt my feelings though since I had a five speed from my V6 that bolted up to it.
