Well I guess that it's been long enough and I haven't made one of these yet so the time is right.
So I started out in the truck scene with a '73 RCLB K10. Bought it off eBay from a guy local for $3300. It had a full restoration, newish crate 350, a 3" lift on 33's and painted pearl white when I bought it. I had already started wanting to mod it, within the first month I had it a true dual exhaust went on. I had a new intake manifold and air cleaner waiting in the garage, they never went on. I drove it for 3 months before I was t-boned by a 3/4 ton burb...totaled both trucks, and an eclipse in the other lane. Kinda got screwed a little, the truck had been appraised for $12k by the guy I bought it from and I had another appraisal for $13k. Stupid insurance gave me 6k. I still walked away with more than I had into it so I was ok with it but would have liked that extra 8k
The only remaining picture of it is from the accident...I'll try and pull it up from home some day.
In hind sight this was probably a good thing for me...I had a baby on the way and needed something a little more "family friendly".
So thankfully we had an extra truck sitting around...my dad bought the 99 Sierra new and had driven it every day up until he was given a company truck. So the 99 was just sitting. Bone stock...with a camper shell . I started driving it to school every day and began to like it. During my senior year the trans went out so my cousin put in a brand new fully built 60e. All hardened parts, shift kit, servo, and billet shafts. So after I graduated I began to mod it...first thing to go was the camper. Then I added the system that had been in my brothers exploder...Rockford Fosgate bd1000.1 amp powering a single RF Power HX-2 12" sub. The sub was in a garbage box but sounded ok. That sub went out a couple years later and I got a new Alpine Type-R 12 from my bro for Christmas. The type-r sounded really good...good enough to get stolen out of the truck.
The truck never really got many mods early on...I had it tinted and had a true dual flowmaster exhaust put on. Then I found a decent set of 16's on tires for it. After those tires went bad I threw a set of 285/75-16 BFG all terrains on it. That was about the time I found this site.
Here is what the truck looked like for quite a long time:
Soon after findig this site I decided that I wanted to drop the truck and go fast. So I pulled the rear block and it was "leveled".
The truck the got the performance type of mods..Nelson tune and a CAI started it out. I really wanted to turbo the truck but never would have the money to do it so I traded my stock manifolds for a set of PaceSetter LT's with a ORY (thanks mike). Ran the truck with open headers for a week and couldn't stand it anymore so I had a 3" single exhaust added. Went with another flowmaster.
Found a set of Titan 18's for sale on craigslist and snatched them up.
And that's the way the truck stayed for almost another year. About 2-3 months ago I was on my way home from work and I had an awful tick so I decided to replace the lifters because I already had a set of LS7's waiting. I was pretty short on money so I was just going to replace the lifters and leave everything else...after some discussion with my parents we decided that it was a better idea to replace everything. So I started to tear the truck down. Ordered a Thunder Racing cheaTR cam(219/230 .607/.604 117LSA) and patriot extreme dual springs and I already had a set of TSP hardened pushrods. So over the course of a month all that went in. Also added an SLP UDP because I busted a tab off the crank pulley whe removing it. Added an updated Nelson 91 tune. On the first voyage it blew out the trans cooler line and dumped all trans fluid on the ground. Took it to my cousin and he took care of it. And its been perfect since then.
This is a small idle clip from the first day:
I've got a NNBS intake manifold and 90mm Holley TB waiting in my room. Also a set of professional products fuel rails to go with the new intake. Hopefully I'll have them on this weekend.
