#1 - Broke a thrust bearing, huh?
#2 - Did you have too much backlash in the input drum? Yeah, those clutches look smoked. I bet the steels are trashed, too.
#3 - Did you inspect the clutches in the reverse drum to see how they are?
#4 - Did you check the forward sprag assembly to see if it's engaging? It's supposed to slip one direction and lock the other..
    [/b]
    #1 - Yup
#2 - Elaborate please <--- I'm still learning Gonna get new clutch kit.
#3 - Yup, those were fine. Should have pics in a previous post (if not, I'll find 'em)
#4 - How? Trans assembled, or what?

Just hold the big end in one hand and twist the small end with the other hand. It should revolve one direction and lock going the other direction. Sprag failure is common. The sprags are usually upgraded to 30 something rollers on performance vehicles. On the thrust bearing, did you have it installed upside down? It looks odd. I'm redoing mine right now so things are very fresh in my mind.

BTW, I drilled the little bitty .041" hole in the input drum. Finding a #58 drill was fun (grainger or Fastenal) and then it was too small to fit my drill chuck so I wrapped the shank with teflon tape and then put it in the chuck. I now have a perfect place to leach out the fluids that commonly cause 3-4 clutch pack failures. At over $100 for a set of Raybesto Blue Plates I sure don't want to have to replace them again anytime soon!

    Thanks, Red...

I've wondered what component inside the transmission caused that. Yeah... that confirmed that the sprag is busted. Luckily I have a spare.

Cool, when you take it apart just out of curiosity, take some pics. I know you can't help but investigate your carnage.

Well, faithful followers, here are a few pics of the sprag. Talk about tear'n stuff up. Looks like a VERY CHEAP OEM assembly. :judge:

Question(s): What's the difference b/t the 29 Element Sprag vs OEM sprag? More SPECIFICALLY... what makes the 29 better than the OEM?

Damn, you busted the hell out of that thing! You need to take those spacers out of the 1-2 servo.

You mean the 1-2 accumulator, right?

Didn't you say you put two washers in the 1-2 shift servo?

if memory serves, uh, no. Transgo says washers go under 1-2 accumulator spring(s). That's where I installed (followed illustration too). I'm sure they had a factor in the sprag going bye-bye.
