This is an awesome site. I've been lurking for a while but I've got a question for all you pro's. I want to swap out my vortec 5.7 in my 99 yukon. I'd like to drop in an LS 5.3. I don't want to run the coil on plug setup, I'd like to run a distributor. I know I need to get the timming cover setup to do this but could I still use my cam and crank sensor from the vortec motor? I'll rework my factory harness for the necessary sensors on the 5.3 but I was just curious about the distributor setup. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Joe

Wow, why would you want to do that? The cam will not work because of the intake/exhaust port order on the cam is all wrong for the Gen3 engine. Gen3 is I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E and Gen1-2 is E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't even think about the cam. I was just trying to rework my harness to run the new LS motor. I guess I'll have to rewire more than I thought.

That manifold wont work either.

Why swap to the 5.3 though? haha Go 6.0. I dont know how much other shops charge but we only charge 2250. with an engine and com and harness.

Or I could sell you a complete drop in harness for the motor. You'd need the LSx manifold/engine harness to go with the engine.

I've got a harness that a customer never paid for, it's a drop in for a Yukon. Maintains all the factory fuse block and body harness.

Really. Just drop in. All of my electronics would work? Would it run the new ecm or the original vortec ecm? I just want to do a clean install, no piggy back setups. I'd also like to still have the factory OBDII plug work so I can scan the ecm as needed

You'd need the new style ECM and all the sensors electronics for the newer engine. It keeps the cruise control, AC controls, speedo, check engine light all working like original. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you all the install information that came with the harness.

Also, if you don't have one already, I'll include the engine harness, TAC module, and DBW gas pedal assembly.
