    starter wiring

I feel like this is a dumb question but i am going to ask it anyway. I have had a little trouble getting my starter to function on my lq9 swap (into a 96 chevy). i wired up a fused switch to the solenoid and the hot cable from the starter, and it works. when i was trying to use the ignition switch with the purple wire, it wont start. I dont currently have the two "other" wires that normally connect to the larger post. do these two wires need to be connected, or is there maybe some other issue? thanks in advance

If I read that right the wires you described as normally on the larger post supply power for a bunch of stuff. Is there a reason you can't connect them? If not, hook them up and give it a shot. If that doesn't work the next step is tracing a wiring diagram. Do you have access to one?

I used to fix the wires that ran to the starter on your vehicle due to to the fact that the starter acted as a distribution block for the main feed to vehicle. People used to crawl underneath these vehicles and cut the main feed and kill power to the entire vehicle and kill power to any alarm that was hooked up so they can have their way with the vehicle without the alarm going off. So to answer your problem, hook it back up the way it was originally and your problem should go away.
Been lurking since 09 and I finally have my kickass 6.0 LQ4
LQ4 LQ9 6.0L Engine Service Manual Save to your computer in case it disappears

There isn't really any reason that i didn't hook them up, other than that they didnt seem necessary. i was chasing some gremlins and just hooked up the starter wire that was part of the engine harness to a switched power source. i will just hook up those "extra" wires tomorrow and see how it goes. thanks for the input fellas
