Oil change

I have always changed my own oil using Mobil1. When we purchased my 2013 Silverado Z71, the salesman (personal friend) snuck in the service plan for free oil changes and tire rotations for 3 years. My question is, is that even though I didn't pay for the service plan, should I still continue to change my own oil? Reason being is because I'm sure dealerships use the oil that was sold by the lowest bidder and probably not synthetic. I'm pretty anal about my vehicles which is why I'm looking for guidance and not really concerned about paying for and doing my own oil changes

I just spent 60 bucks today getting the oil changed on my truck.

That's what I'm getting at. Should I spend the $40-$50 to change my own oil that way I know what I'm getting, or let the dealership for free and not know what they're putting in? When I called and asked what oil they use, all they told me was that it's Dexos oil.

dexos is 0w20 syn I believe. if its free just change it with them.
if your anal then just change it your self. Do you get the old oil tested for hydrocarbon percentage? which fuel do you consistently use? has the coolant been flushed/tested?

My truck just hit 6,000 miles with 9% oil life left. I've never had any of those tested and always 87 octane unleaded.

Go ahead and swap to a good oil now and change it yourself. I'm running amsoil 5w20 in mine. But it has 190k on it. But I have to pay a place 12 bucks to change it for me cuz all my tools are at work and I have nowhere to dispose of the oil.

how so? my stock oil change monitor is set at 8500 for intervals and i have a 2010 truck

I thought the oil life monitor was based on engine rpm, not actual mileage. My 05 May vary 6-800 miles from 100-0%.
