    Conversion Question 5.3L into 1994 C3500

    Hello everyone,
I have decided to swap out the tired TBI out of my 3500 for something a bit more potent. I decided getting a 5.3 dropout would be the best choice.

I was wondering what needed to be done to get the old 4L80E to work with the new ECM and if there are any other considerations I'll need to take into account? Since most dropouts have some decent miles on them I'll probably throw a cam kit in there for good measure.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Bill, welcome to the site.

Not sure if the wiring changed on the 4L80E from the earlier years to the later years. It did on the 4L60E. Those transmissions needed to be a '96 or newer to work with the LS engine's PCM, or have the internal transmission wiring converted to the newer wiring if it is a pre '96. I think the 4L80E remained unchanged but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone will be along with a better answer.
