Thread: Cam question

    Cam question

Doing a 5.3 swap onto my 84 gmc c10. I am going to use my 700r4 with the 2800 stall converter I already have in the truck. The old 350 had a comp 280 cam in it and I loved the way it sounded. What would be a good cam to put on the 5.3 that'll sound pretty aggressive and be good with my setup?

I would run something along the lines of a 218/222 on a 112 LSA, using the EPS lobes. Straight up or advanced as much as 4 degrees depending on how soon you want the power to come in.

    Other options are:

    220/224 using the XE lobes

    219/223 using the LSL lobes

You can go more aggressive but it will not make the power where that 2800 stall needs it.

Either the PAC 1518's or a good double spring.

Personally I would go with the EPS lobes and PAC 1518's, quieter valve train and longer spring life with basically the same power.

anything with an intake lobe between 216-220... exhaust lobe with a 4* split (216/220 or 220/224 for ex) gives a little extra high rpm (peak power) without killing the bottom end. I'd do a 220/224 XER on a 112+4.... old aggressive lobe i know but proven.

Forgive my ignorance with cams but what is the + 4.
Is that advancing the cam 4 degrees?
