Trans, speedo and all that fun stuff.

Few ??'s for you guys. I'm doing a swap on a 84 c10. Motors an 04 4.8 (stock) with a th350 trans. What's needed to make the speedo gauge work with my ls harness? I was told some thing about a censor to adapt the the cable to my harnes but what ever they were saying didn't make any since Me seeing how the Cable goes to the trans and to the gauge. Why would I need an adaptor to make the gauge work? Will the trans shift ok as it should just hooking it up like it was from factory from back in the day?

Since you are using a cable speedo type of trans and your truck speedo is also cable, you don't need to change or buy anything. The TH350 trans uses a throttle cable that goes to the carburetor. You will need to adapt that cable to the throttle body on the Gen3 engine. I don't know if anyone makes a throttle cable bracket for such a setup. You may need to make the bracket up yourself.

Jeff is right. Since the venerable ol' Turbo 350 uses the cable to drive the speedo, and your guage in your truck is cable driven, there should be no need for changes. As for the kick down cable you will have to make some kind of bracket. Don't forget to run the vacuum line as well for the vacuum modulator.

Ok. Thank you Jeff. My harness is drive by wire. So my throttle body only has a plug. Is it possible that's the censor the random no teeth having hill billy was ranting on about?

Oohh, You didn't mention you were using a DBW T/B. The cruise is handled by the TAC module. You will need to install the DBW pedal, Pedal to TAC module harness, TAC module, and wire in your cruise switch to the TAC module. You need to do some more reading and studying on this forum for your project.

The above is true. Even if you don't want the cruise hooked up it will be impossible to run your old style cable operated turbo 350 with a drive by wire setup. I suggest you look into swapping in a cable actuated throttle body.
You won't have to source a tac module or an electric gas pedal.
The wires for the throttle position sensors and etc will have to be pulled from that one big plug you have and pinned to the seperate plugs/sensors on a cable driven throttle. I believe some computer reprogramming will also have to be done to swap but I'm not 100% sure.
It may be easier for you to keep the drive by wire (dbw), find a newer 4l60e and buy a converter box to go from electric speedo to a mechanical one. Or aftermarket gauges

Good info guys. Thanks. I already have the pedal, tac harness and box installed. So I guess the next step is to find the cruise wires and a lot more reading. Thanks every one.

That link shows the dbw cruise hookup. It's basically an on/off switch and momentary switches
Should be real simple to hook up to a pre existing turn signal/ cruise knob.

How do you plan on using the tv cable from the trans?

I'm thinking I'm just gonna remove the pan and remove the cable and drill and tap it for a plug and Then manually shift the trans when I need to pass or feel the need to get up and go

You could possibly rig up a cable arm onto the DBW pedal for the trans kick down.
