I thought about doing that^ Only problem is I will have to change a bunch of the wiring on the harness in order for it to work with DBC.

I think I'm just gonna get the van dropout. If the harness ends up looking to sloppy, and I care enough, I'll go ahead and completely reroute it.

You're going to doing a fair bit of work thinning out the harness either way, what's another hour working over the van harness the way you want to?

Very true, Frenchy. I'm sure I'm going to spend a lot of time tidying up the engine bay. I might as well pay attention to detail on the wiring also. Speaking of wiring....I haven't found a definitive answer for this. Does anyone know if I can remove my TBI ecu completely? Again, this is a 89k1500. It appears that all the wiring for the 4x4 system is separate from the ecu. I'm pretty sure the gauges run straight to the senders also. I'm deleting the A/C and cruise control, regardless.

As far as I can tell, you should be able to remove it. I kept mine in thinking it would run the fuel pump relay and A/C but found that it wasn't needed. The gauges will run to your original senders. Street and Performance has the proper adapters for the oil pressure sender. For your temp sender, look at this link:

If you convert to the '94 gauge package, your tach will wire to the PCM white tach wire. The speedo is wired from the PCM speedo wire. You will need VSS input from your tailshaft sensor to the PCM for the speedo to work. That's what I did.

Thanks Mickey. I'm going to keep my 89 cluster because there is some significant differences with the early gmt 400 units. I think the drac or vss unit is actually inside the early clusters. Plus, my new power plant will have plenty of life above 4K rpm's.
