I rebuild transmissions under warranty at a GM dealer, whenever I do them we do an estimate on cost to repair vs. replace and go from there. I usually get an overhaul kit and replace all seals, gaskets and clutches, and pistons in the input housing. (on a 4L60). Usually also replace the input housing when a 3/4 goes due to excessive scoring where the clutches ride. A lot of times the boost springs will overheat and distort and they also get replaced.
