New member needs advice on 5.3L swap.
Hi guys. I'm planning on swapping a 5.3L into my '93 silverado V-6, 5-speed truck. Will the flywheel bolt to the crank and the tranny bolt to the block? What do I do for motor mounts and will I have a problem keeping the tranny in the exact same place so I'm not messing with the tranny mount & drive shaft? In my swap, is it best to use the same P/S pump & alternater that came on the 5.3L? My radiator is quite new. Do you think it's big enough for a 5.3L with a 5-speed behind it? Lastly, this is a bare-bones truck with no A/C or cruise, so could you also throw some wiring advice my way! Thanks very much for your help.

Welcome to the site!!
I have never done the swap your doing, but I wish you all the luck!! I am swapping a 5.7 LS1 in my 04' Colorado, and I'm reusing the stock Colorado radiator but I also added dual electric fans from an F-body. As far as the wiring goes, a lot of people buy harnesses that are already modified which is fine. I think you learn a lot more if you do the wiring yourself but that's just me, someone will chime in about the specifics though....

I just did this swap in a 92 which had a 383 before. You will need a flywheel for the 5.3 motor.I bought mine from Rielly's auto nfw 1050 was the part.I went with the pressure plate, clutch and throwout bearing from a 2001 5.3.I also changed my 5 speed tranny to a new 5 peed because my syncros were shot on the old one.You can use the clutch kit for a V8 from your year withe the new flywheel.Check out this write up http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/lsx-t...peed-swap.html I learned a lot from this thread.I am not sure about your radiator i used my stock one that had a V8 before and it works perfect. The upper radiator hose i used the one for the 5.3 and i think the lower one also but i can't remember.Do alot of research on this site before you start.Saved me ton of time when i did my project.Good luck!

I also used the alternator and power steering fromthe 5.3 motor. For motor mounts i used the dirty dingo mounts for the motor they worked perfect.I think i read somewhere if you have the v6 you need to change the frame mounts to a v8 .

You will have to replace the motor mounts on the frame to V8 ones. $50 a pair at parts store. Lower control arms gave to come off to get to the bolts/nuts. I used my stock v6 radiator with my first v8 swap and It worked but ran a little hot in summer with AC on.
