    budget ls2 s10 conversion

after a bad string of luck with motors, i put the silverado back bone stock. i was just fed up with it and needed a break. i always wanted a s10 to play with and ran across this little pickup for $800. it's a clean ass little pickup for the price. automatic transmission with a blown 2.2 motor. body and paint are in damn good shape for a 1996. it was repainted somewhere along the line. the plan is to keep this thing on a decent budget. the silverado was getting out of control there towards the end and it just wasnt as fun at that point.

the donor motor came from a 2007 CTS-V and has around 60,000 miles on it. i splurged on this part and put a major ding in the budget of my budget hotrod. but i always wanted to play with a LS2 so i got me one. $2,200 but this motor is CLEAN inside and out.

i picked up a cam over the weekend. it was installed into a block but never even had the rockers tightened down on top of it. snatched it up for $220 shipped. it is a:
    236/242 .612/.612 110lsa
    IO 12
    IC 44
    TDC Overlap 19
    EC 7
    EO 55
    ICL 106

i was going to go with something larger, but i dont want to have to flycut the pistons, and pulling the heads would make me want to mill them down...new gaskets, new bolts...it didnt seem very budget friendly lol, so i settled for the smaller bump stick.

the plan is to go carb on this build. Victor jr intake, 850 carb, 1 7/8 headers and either a 350, 400 or 80e. POSSIBLY 60e but i'd rather stay away from a 60e if i can. anyways, that's the build for now. 3,320 tied up in the project so far. lots more to spend

    What's your planned budget?

Looks pretty clean. Needs to get out of the sky though .

I dont have a budget number in mind...I will spend enough to make it a dependable street truck, or i wont have it. i'm just planning on finding as many used parts as possible. nothing crazy. i went with a smaller cam than planned so i dont have to pull the heads and replace gaskets/bolts while flycutting the pistons. i also picked it up at a used cam price instead of going with a new custom grind like i wanted to. i'm going with carb over EFI because the cost of staying EFI with this build is crazy. the vic jr is also a better inake than the truck manifolds that i have laying around. also the vic jr intake should distribute nitrous better with a plate instead of an efi style intake. tuning a carb is also easier than EFI and i will be less dependant on needing a sooper tooner to keep my truck in check. from what i've seen the carb style intakes swallow cams that EFI has issues with. the transmission will most likely just be a stock 4l80e on a shift kit. sticking with stock heads, sticking with stock rod bolts...maybe someday i'll throw on some afr heads and super vic but for now i dont want to go crazy with it like i did with the silverado.

I agree on getting it out of the sky, but at this point of the build i just want to spend my money getting the drivetrain in and running. the cosmetic stuff will come later.

The first truck I ever had with my name on the title was very similar. Only crap black paint, and powered by a 4.3w/5speed. I wish I could get that truck back and do a similar swap, but its long gone. Good luck and I will for sure be watching out for this one.

This reminds me of my 350 powered 84 S10 blazer i had 7 yrs ago. It was fun as hell. This is going to be a awsome build.

Wow, that's gonna be a fun little truck! An S10 will be my next project truck. I'd like to get a little Xtreme stepside and jam an LS2 or LS3 in it with a T56.
