Hey. I have a 2WD 94 sierra with about 120k on a L03 305. Lets just say, the 305 is making all sorts of top end noise and burns oil...

I have been kicking around a LT1 or a LS1 swap. LS1s now seem more appealing because I think I would get better gas millage and HP with the LS1 then a LT1.

I have a Impala SS with a LT1 (of course) now ,I am familar with the engine. Something new like LS1 seems alot cooler however.

Anyway, I have read some old threads so I have a small idea of what is required, Custom motor mounts, A knotch for the AC compressor... etc..

I have a question about the AC compressor. I have one thats BRAND NEW on the 305 now. If I install a LS1 I would like to use it. is it possible to rig up an AC compressor up high on the passenger side?

Street and performance seem to sell brackets but they are mad money and seem like they work with LS1 style compressors, not the short sized compressor on the TBI trucks.

Besides that, The HVAC will all work the same?

What about the analog gauges in TBI trucks? how would those wire up?

Also, How long to LS1s last? I know people with Caprices and impalas with 300k on there cars and they still run great. What sort of miles on a engine should I look for?

If anyone can awnswer my question, that would be cool. thanks.

Sounds like some good questions for Redheartbeat. My engine had 112K on it when I dropped it in. I replaced the timing chain, oil pump, cam, push rods, springs, and a fresh valve job just for peace of mind. Runs great though.

WELCOME, Impala SS's are BAD! but once you put an LS1 in your truck youre really going to fly! These GEN 3 motors last as long if not longer than the previous small blocks, with proper maintainence of course.GM tested one with over 400,000 miles at thier proving grounds.

You appearantly didn't read enough past posts.

Yeah, the stock guages will work with the LS1 inputs. You'll need a tach module if you have a dash mounted tach, from BakerElectronix.com. The speedometer will work with input from the PCM. The oil pressure sending unit can be mounted in the adapter block just above the oil filter or you can make an adapter and screw it in instead of the LS1 pressure sending unit. For water temp you can get a 3 wire sending unit from a 98 F-body and wire it into the existing guage.

The S&P mounts I've seen use a Sanden 508 compressor, not the LS1/truck compressors.
