It seems its always the stupid stuff that takes more time and effort than the more complicated crap.
Took an LM7 from a 5.3 in a 2004 silverado. Had a y-pipe and full exhaust hooked up for testing, but later sold the exhaust portion to help recoup some of the costs. I'm planning on running stock 5.3 truck manifolds not just for cost, but for fitment; engine fitting into an 86 k20.
What I can't find anywhere, is the correct flanges, or collectors, that bolt to the exhaust manifolds like the typical y-pipe would. I first though it would be easy enough to find a damaged or rotten y-pipe, and I could just cut the ends off, however all the yards for a 500 mile radius that comes into contact with a y-pipe, either sells it as functional, or cuts the cats off and hucks the rest in the dumpter.
I've tried exhaust shops, and was able to find a flange for the drivers side, but the passenger side is MIA. Engine is ready to go into the truck, but I'm not going to start until I have everything I need, and this is the last bit. I'm not buying a $200 dollar functional y-pipe and then cut it up. And I insane, or is this stuff just not availible in the aftermarket? Seems like it would be.
