disagreed. but your point has been noted... i will keep it in mind. i just dont think i can build a 6.0L to get more power then the 8.1L for less money... looking at the options, im between a diesel swap (not likely, but i have been tossing that idea aroung A LOT) a vortec 454 swap, or a vortec 496 swap because they bolt it.

seriously, if this suburban is worth what you say it is, sell it and take the conversion money you were going to use and get something that is already built right for what you need. There will be better projects to work on in the future and I'm sure you'll be able to get to work with it sooner plus if you get one that came with what you need from the factory you will have less issues in the future. You dad will appreciate it, too.

i suggested selling it, my dad refuses... so if nothing gets done to it by the time i have a job, and have all ready build a car for myself, then im doing something as far as a work truck goes. i dont know what though.

lol, i like the 2 cents...

EDIT: i know a guy, i could get a cummins ram for free or cheap if i wanted to, 2002 with 100K miles... if anyone else were to ask he would say hell no, but, like i said, i know a guy... thats an option... i just wish it had a bigger back seat, and i would need to see if it has 4 wheel drive and an auto trans (i would rather a 6 speed stick, but my father is disabled and cant drive stick EVERY DAY.) but i have never seen the truck, he has just told me a little about it. wow, i really need to look into that.

hmmmmmm... i will need to look into that.

Im a die hard Gm EFI swap man... but you need to read up on the 12v Cummins. You couldn't be more wrong about that mill. They're not expensive to work on because they never fail. Plus it doesn't cost a penny to turn em way up.

yeah, i was looking at your name... hahahaha. well, i will look into getting that cummins ram, then if that doesn't happen then i will look into a 12 valve swap.

alright smithkid, this is my:let me start off by saying i admire your ambition, (OK here it goes) if you can get a free cummins powered truck than get it! no brainer, drive the wheels off it (or transmission out of it whatever comes first). would be a cool swap into the(i cant let this one go)- ''worth 9k suburban''. ok so now you probably don't like me that's ok- i'm not done yet. I had a 2001 sub with 8.1 4x4 loaded, it did have a 6'' lift and 35's mpg: 11/12 thats it. it pulled great, and you might get close on your target mpg's on stock suspension. however i don't condone the swap. the guys that have suggested 6.0's are right. and last but not least you said there are ''NO PARTS'' and i quote again: ''NO PARTS''(all caps)for a 454? are you kidding??? The only thing you are limited by is the sky and your wallet on building the 454 that is in your truck. if someone gives you a complete donor truck to swap from then have at it! and post the progress or regress or whatever. if you must swap then 6.0 or, better yet the cummins- sick! you would have your power, fuel mileage, and more important than anything else, the cool factor. sorry i had to be like this

i dont mind that you had to be like this...

A: i really dint think it was worth alot untill i looked on EBAY, im serious, it only has 90000 miles, and 4x4, 454, ect. if i need to, i will pull up adds. im not saying i want to just post it for 9000 today, but still.
B: im worried the 6.0 will not have the torque im looking for
c: im not looking at getting the ram as a donor truck, this guy treats his cars like royalty, but i like the trans comment (LOL)
d: everything im reading online is that most of the performance parts i want only bolt up to the vortec 454 (they are completely different engines, diffent heads, accesories, fueing system, air intake system ect)
e: this will be my first swap, and allthough i have PLENTY of conections, i want to do a swap that pretty much just bolts in so i can do most of the work, thats why the vortec 454 or 496 would be easiest
so yeah, not to defy you or anything (i save that for my biology teacher, and i still have the highest grade), this is just my 2 cents. lol

maybe some of the ''older guys'' jk, more big block knowledgeable guys will break down the different gens/interchangeability of these motors and performance parts for you. if the miles are only 90k i'm guessing its had a relatively easy life, why not put some fi on it theres plenty of turbo support on this forum. I think the only real limiting factor of your tbi 454 is the tbi itself and its lack of being able to deliver more fuel to support more power.

i'm glad you brought up ebay because theres allot of people drinking the ''koolaid' when they put prices on their stuff, and just cause they ask it doesn't mean they get it. Unless of course the buyers are also drinking the same said ''koolaid''. A vehicle is worth whatever you can get someone to give you for it, or what your willing to pay for it. please don't suggest the sub is a 9k truck as i'm having a hard time getting past this. lol!

leave the burb alone for pops, and you get the dodge and start blowing black smoke all over town!
