    4L80e Swap Update... Need Opinions!!!

Well I made a previous post about swaping my 4L60E to a 4L80E I can get from one of my buddys here.

    http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/power...4l80-swap.html

Like I mentioned the transmission has been sitting for about 2 or 3 years but it was working when they pulled it out of the truck. I am planning on just taking my chances and putting it in the truck and hoping for the best cause I am extremely low on cash right now. I pulled the pan off of it to check it out and my buddy said it looked fine but I took some pictures to see what yall think. Please give me your honest opinion and let me know what yall are thinkin. Thanks!

That is not a swap to do when extremely low on expendable cash. Let it set until you can have it gone through before installing.

Yea it did have a little water in it. And yes I took the pics about 10 feet from where it had been sitting under a shed, it also had a bronco top on top of it so it wasnt inside but it was covered fairly decent. and as far as having money for the swap goes, I already have everything I need except the flexplate bolts and the wire harness. Other than that it should be ready to go. how much would it cost to have someone go through it? I dont know of any good transmission guys around here all the ones I have dealt with or heard of are crooks so that is another reason. I don't wanna take it to some guy that will just tear my head of and it end up screwing up anyway.

You could buy books and attempt to do it yourself. The 80e is a very simple transmission compared to others I've messed with. You could go ahead and install it and then if something is wrong pay for a full rebuild. Bad thing is that once you go 80e you're committed to it. If something is wrong with the tran you'll be down during the repairs after being down while converting over to the 80e. Be forewarned 80e parts are bigger and pricey compared to the puny 60e stuff.

www.crateenginedepot.com has a flexplate, bolts and spacer all for about $50 for the 80e to LS engine swap.

Yea Ive already got the flexplate and spacer, I just need the bolts. Wish I would have seen that tho lol its a little better deal than what I got but not to much. I guess thats what I plan on doin is putting it in and if it doesn't work go from there. And Being committed to a 4l80 is fine by me, the 4l60 just wont hold up to my 44" TSL's. Also this is not my daily driver but it has been down for to long now and I need to get it going.
