Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have a similar issue. Could this still be the case even with over 40lbs of oil pressure?
At what rpm are you getting 40lbs. If idle then its not your oring.
About 1500 - 2000. I'm going to check the lifter preload tomorrow.
Lifter preload is way low. (.015)
How is it so low with 7.4 rods and stock heads. Tr224 cam.
Was actually an exhaust leak. But would only show up when driven hard. odd, but happy I found the problem.
Most likely the heat expanding the metal and creating an air passage.
