    Oil for new motor

    ok fellas.. i just want opinions and experience here..
    for the new 403 project..
    royal purple..
    mobile..
    i will be using synthetic..
    break in oil..???
    i wanna know peoples opiinions on what to run in it..

    Ask Rex what he recommends for what he set the clearances at. As far as brands, go with Mobil1 or Amsoil. I've seen a couple motors torn down after a life of Royal Purple and they're just filled with sludge.

    ahh forgot about amsoil.. or lucas.. so many choices
    ive heard good, and bad, about royal purple..
    ill ask rex when the motors done.. should be this week..

    more then likely a conventional oil is usually ran for the first few - 500 miles or so, then more conventional oil!! i wouldnt go synthetic until you have a thousand or so miles on it


    also theres a additive thats used for first start up few hundred miles
    Simple: 408 on steroids!

    Definitely ask your builder what weight oil he set the clearances up for, mine was setup for 20w50 by the builder. Also, ask about break-in additives containing zinc. Many people used to run diesel engine oils due to them having zinc in them that conventional passenger car oil had removed many years ago. Even the diesel oils have little to no zinc in them now due to the government trying to control our lives.

    I've ran a 15w40 on the two new motors I had. and was told to not switch to synthetic till after atleast 1000 miles.
