It is really easy if you pull the pan down enough to have room to work. I went ahead and pulled mine off and changed the pan gasket as well.
sounds easy. there's no need to center it on the shaft or anything more complex then bolting it in place?
I forget what size feeler, but i've seen guys just use 3 feeler gauges to center it on the shaft. Could use 4 for safe measure.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum
Iirc, there is a tool specific for installing an oil pump.

heres a pic to show you how i centered mine:
3 sets help, i ended up with .003 clearance, still alittle tight then what i wanted, but you get the idea![]()

I just looked in my factory manuals and it says nothing about a centering procedure. Weird.
I've been following the gen3 engines since 1996 when they started exposing data on them and I have only seen a few articles talking about centering the pump. In the early days they spoke about a special tool that slipped over the end of the crank snout to align the pump.
