    Ditching 4wd

Ok so I never use my 4wd and it's hard(er) to do a good drop on a 4wd so I'm looking into removing all the 4wd stuff...anyone done this before? Any idea what it would take?

    Step 1: Pop the hood.
Step 2: Pull the radiator cap.
Step 3: Pull the truck out of the garage.
Step 4: Pull a 2WD model into the garage.
    Step 5: Replace radiator cap.
    Step 6: Close hood.

    Done.

Actually, I don't have a clue, but would assume the best way to accomplish this is to buy a 2WD version on the cheap to use for parts.

i wanted to do the same but for the weight loss, i figure just pull the front drive shaft pull the transfer case, replace the output shaft in the transmission to the 2wd out put shaft get a custom driveshaft, im sure its alot more work then expected and alot of money to spend to get her working again but not totally sure

How far down do you want to go? The front spindles are the same either way.

If you really want to ditch the 4x4:
Trade the 4x4 trans and transfer case for a 2wd trans
    Get a 2wd rear driveshaft
    Remove the front driveshaft
    Remove the front diff
    Remove the front half shafts.
For the front wheel bearings/hubs you have 2 options, 1. replace them with 2wd hubs from a 2wd Tahoe, or take the ends off your halfshafts and insert them into the existing hubs. You can NOT run the 4x4 hubs without the shaft ends in them. They will fail almost immediately.

Since you have selectable 4x4, you can also just remove the front driveshaft, deal with the front and leave the transfer case in there. Just seal off the hole for the driveshaft in the transfer case and leave it in 2HI and remove the controller switch.

No matter what you do, you are still going to have to deal with the torsion bar suspension when lowering, so you may not gain that much by losing the 4x4.

Ditch all the 4wd stuff and convert to coilover. I think the ears for the control arms are spaced the same for 2wd and 4wd. Get 2wd control arms and some coilovers and you're good to go..... lol

Well after last night I think this is all going on the back burner...for those who don't know I was on my way home last night and my drivers front wheel said peace. I was going 65-70mph on the freeway. Wheel is destroyed. All the studs are sheered off the hub. The rotor is toast. Quarter panel is pushed up under the door so you can only open drivers door about 6". I have no clue as to the extent of the damage to the suspension yet. Hopefully I'll get an idea today. I'll post a couple pics for you guys when I get into the office.

No idea. That's one theory though. I rotated the tires about a month ago. I know all lugs were tight when I did. Used the impact on them, then gave them a little more with my breaker bar. My cousin mentioned that someone may have attempted to steal my wheels and loosened them then gotten scared by something and left. I honestly don't know.

I've seen hubs fail before, but never have I seen the studs shear when one failed. Generally the rotor and hub face stay with the wheel. But anything is possible.
