Gear ratio for Turbo aplication !

Help me beat some more this dead horse !

For what I read and know, lower gear ratios are a no-no for boosted aplications.

Lot of reasons here, but the one most builders tend to point out is loading the engine in order to make boost.

And the other main reason tends to be traction.

If we go to basics of 1/4 mile, we want to pass in the shortest time posible.

If we have a drag dedicated car, we will want to pass 500-1000rpm before hitting the rev limiter 1:1

Now, if we have a 4wd drag car, that has non to minimum tire spin, and because of it's weigth (4500lbs) and the resistance that all the drive line puts to the engine.....will it load the turbo?

Top this with the long 1st gear from the 80e.

And pretend the gear change is minimal, like 3.73 to 4.10

Will this gear ratio swap give lower ET's ?

i think so. I think too high of a gear is still hurting you even with boost. I love my 3.70 gears. and would not even consider going higher, I would go lower if anything. as long as it makes the desired boost, it is loading enough imo. just my .02

The best advice I have ever heard:... Only take B( . Y . )ST advice from someone that is CURRENTLY running a turbo setup close to, or bigger than what you want......

    I'm still in denial !!!!

I'll wait for 04chase to swap to 3.73 from 4.11

He has some good times on 4.11 awd

Let's see if the higher gears will make a positive difference !!!!

Subscribed. I'm trying to figure out what gears to run in my turbo 5.3 w/80E. 4.10's combined with the 80E 's 2.48:1 first gear is equal to "3.32's" and the 60E's first gear. I just want to make sure the truck will pull a decent 60' time.

with the 5.3 the 410s should work well
    2002 Lightning - GT headed 5.5Litre w/ Twin 7665s
    2002 Silverado - 427Lsx w/ Twin gt4202s
    2010 Silverado crewcab Z71 - 5.3litre w/ procharger
    2000 Wrangler - 5.3litre with some stance
    2014 Xsport- 3.5 Eco boost

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

My truck went faster with 4.10s than 3.42. However for daily driving you can't beat the 3.42s. If it helps you any it mph 126 on 4.10 and 122 on 3.42.
