Some of the motors I see on here look as good if not better than new. Since mine is going to be a daily driver I dont want to go the polished show car route. But, I like that clean, new look. What are the tricks to cleaning the aluminum. What about all the brackets and accessories.
The Corvette inspired Silverado is now rolling strong!

I spray mine off at the car wash with the high pressure spayer. If it's really dirty I'd think that on a cool engine carb cleaner would clean anything. Brake cleaner might be safer. Or spray with a mulitpurpose cleaner like Simple Green and then high pressure wash/rinse. Then just take your time and do some cleaning with a rag. See mine at www.msnusers.com/jimsdogtruckphotos

Golden rule is, if you won't use it to clean your polished aluminum wheels, don't attempt to use it to clean your engine. Cleaners with ammonia in them will acid etch the aluminum.

Buy some good engine detail and shine. I use it on our cars when we do shows. Whip down all your plastic and rubber parts with it, they will look new and shinny for a long time.

I've always gone to the car wash to spray their "engine cleaner" on & rinse off. I try not to drown the engine when rinsing off, but you're safe as long as it's running and the alt stays clear of direct spray. Nowadays, I do this in my driveway (since I just bought a house... woohoo&#33 with zip wax & water, and it's just as good. I took my Yukon ('02) to the dealer for an alt swap, and the tech in back said that's got to be the cleanest engine bay he's worked on.

Now, normally, my engine is spotless, but it rained hard here last week, and I went around a curve in the road into a giant mud puddle. When I got out, I looked at the body, and there was no mud anywhere, so I thought I got off easy. Earlier this week, I popped the hood and there was dry mud (Georgia Red Clay) all over my precious engine bay. Does anyone know of somthing that will take that off, or am I just gonna have to get after it with a toothbrush?
