Not sure if it's true, but I read once upon a time that around half of the Z-71's made were 3.42's because GM was playing CAFE games. Yes 4.10's were available, but they were a special order at most dealers, you didn't just walk on to lots and find alot of 4.10 trucks. Even in the 9.5" 14bolts in the V-max's and SSS's rarely had 4.10's, most of them were 3.73's. Try looking for them used.
