Check your electrical connections on the transmission

Most sports require one ball, motocross requires two.

Racing isn't a matter of life and death, it's much more important than that.

I would check your vehicle for codes. In some cases a 2nd gear start limp mode condition will happen instead of 3rd gear limp mode. Start there first. Also I have seen where a cracked plastic 1-2 accumulator piston can cause second gear starts however I believe the trans will up shift and then damage the band and 3-4 clutches. Vince

I would be willing to bet you have either broken wires or shorted them resulting in a blown fuse. the 4l60e will default to 2nd gear if you loose all electrical input however if manually shifted to first the valve body will engage first gear which should only be considered limp mode since the line pressure will most likely not be controlled resulting excessive transmission wear. Since you said you were in a field I would definately check the wiring where it goes into the transmission. Don't forget the vss on the rear of the transmission or transfercase whitchever applies to you.

Your trans will not work properly without a vss signal. I would get that fixed first. Might just fix your issue. Vince

VSS is on the output housing where the drive shaft connects to the transmission or transfercase it is the further most rearward plug on your trans. With out that plugged in you would have the same concerns you are describing.
