LSX 454 conversion into obs truck

hi all, I am doing a lsx conversion on my truck, currently have the engine bay mocked up with a ls1 5.7 and 4l65e but plan was to mock everything up then use a l98 6.0l engine out of a new holden commodore (australian vehicle). Have been discussing with a friend about cam/tune/exhaust mods which would deffinantly get done before the actual engine was bolted up, while talking bout these mods discussion went to using a 454lsx crate motor as the price difference between buying a short crate motor from australia is roughly 6.5k and the bigblock is just under 10k from the usa which to me is a great price when you compare the two engines. Now obviously with the bigblock crate motor bolt on's are not included ie intake wiring/ecu,starter,alt and exhaust (will be getting extractor headders built anyways so no issue there!) so now i get to the questions that matter? can the bolt on's mentioned above from a smallblock ls1 be used on the lsx 454 bigblock? if not can you point me in the right direction of where to get parts ect..., at this stage i want to way up total cost of doing either one of these conversions and go from there. Also should mention that it cannot be a carb motor as it will not pass our emission laws down here. Personally i think it would be a great conversion as a bigblock lsx motor is very very rare to be found in a legal street car down here (if any for that matter) and secondly as this truck is being built as a elite showcar i think this engine is going to add wow factor. I will also fill you in that the truck is a rcsb and it currently in progress of a body drop (just have to do the steering and seem seal the floor to have that complete) truck will be airbagged with parallel four link (bag over bar and coil over mounting points for taking down the strip) with a watts link, transmission will be a 4l80e if i go a big block or the 4l65e for smallblock with a high stall in either box and rear end i have just built a 9" with a sheetmetal housing, chromeolly axle tubes, full floater with 31 spline axles, 4.3 or 4.56 diff gears with a eaton true track. Brakes on the rear will be 13" rotors with twin piston calipers. front brakes will be a custom set i am designing with a actual automotive engineer/brake system designer that will consist of 14" rotors and 4 or 6 piston brembo calipers. The rims i have are 22" billet twisted vista's 10'' on the rear with alot of dish and 8.5" rims on the front. Like i say the truck is being built to compete in the biggest car shows in Australia so like i say the bigblock would be a great addition to the truck, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks ryan

ok well have found a bit of information and it looks like intake off smallblock will not work but can be found on ebay very cheap! injectors will need to suit a bigblock. From what i have found it looks as if the engine wiring loom and ecu from the ls1 will work on a bigblock, in saying that i gather that the bolt on electrical stuff like the starter and alternator ect... should be the same for a big and small block? I have probably missed alot of other stuff so if you know of stuff that i would have to get specific for a bigblock that would be great. The way it's looking i think price wise it would be a pretty dam good conversion!

FWIW, the 454LSX is dimensionally the same and isn't a "big block" it just displaces big block cubic inches due to the ability to bore and stroke it to 454ci. IIRC all the engine covers for the 454LSX are specific to that engine only. Check out the vendors that sell a completely assembled unit, they will save you a ton of headaches gathering all the parts to complete your show truck engine if you buy it already assembled and ready to go. There are spacers that go between a stock intake and the heads that are available and will allow you to use a factory intake. In the past people have been having sheetmetal intakes built for the LSX blocks. I believe MastMotorsports has the intake adapter spacers.

cheers for the advice and for clearing up that it is still a smallblock!! will have a look at trying to get a complete engine. Did they actually bring this motor out in a specific vehicle ie corvette ect... ? and can anyone confirm what manifold (stock gm one if possible) and what wiring harness and ecu i would need to use, like i say down here they are strict and all emissions tests must be met and stock ecu's must be used. I will look at getting a complete engine but unless it's running a factory wiring loom for all the sensors i may aswell buy a crate motor and put a stock intake ect... on if possible

check this out.. http://www.mastmotorsports.com/ Go to the Engines, GenIV drop in section and choose your poison.

they sell complete engines, harness and ready to go tunes for the engine in question. Its all GM factory style setups and you should have no issue passing your emissions requirements. Drop them a message and I'm sure they'll fix you up. There are other companies that do this but can't remember their names right now, just woke up. LOL

cut and past the link above, the hyperlink is messed up due to the spacing

no this motor was never "in" anything, as far as wiring harness idk if it would need 3rd or 4th gen sensor setup.

    Another supplier would be turnkeyenginesupply.com

If you want something to really rock their socks you could go to a 500" LS based engine or even an LS9 engine that is supercharged from the factory.

    Also try Katech at http://katechengines.com/street_perf...e_packages.php

Nice engines. Wonder if it is offered in a lower compression version, other than 12 to 1?
