air intake/filter setups and a/c relocation

I want to get a bracket to put my r4 compressor up high on pass side. Looking at the Novak kit, but its on backorder right now for about 3 weeks.

    Any other options out there?

Also what are options on running some intake ducting. the 4.8 is in a 89 suburban, running engine driven fan and 89 radiator and shourd. I was able to get a newer 4.8 style intake tube from TB to mass air on after I cut off part of the resonator tube that was hitting my shroud. I have a small filter stuck on the end of the mass air now. But when I put the a/c back on I don't think this will work as it looks like it will hit.

Really open to some suggestions on the intake set up if anyone has some ideas.

    Thanks

I bought a new rubber 90 degree intake hose from GMPartsDirect.com that came on the LT1 motors. It comes with a IAT(intake air temperature) sensor already installed into the side of it, which you will need. Forget the price, but very reasonable. As for the answer to you wanting to use your R4 compressor, there is a fellow that makes & sells exactly what you need, over on LS1Tech.com , and other LS1 sites, named John Bzdel. He owns/built a 80's Monte Carlo, with a 427 LS drivetrain in it. He goes by the name "John B." on www.LS1Tech.com He has what you are looking for. Hope this helps.

I started a thread for you, over on LS1Tech, to try to contact John B., regarding your A/C bracketry. Turns out, he is out of the country working these days. Will try to find out more details for you.

Here is my .02 cents. I purchased a bracket kit from a "guy" on the internet who makes them for others, like us. The bracket instructions were for an engine with corvette/camaro brackets. The design required cutting one of the tensioner mounting holes off, leaving only two. The bracket plates also had to be "modified" to clear a water pump boss. Lastly, the radius of the tensioner caused the belt to be tightest when the idle is in the middle of it's arc. Once the engine was started and the compressor engaged, the tensioner would move right past the tight point and end up in the rest position, allowing the pully to rub on one of the compressor bolts. My instructions did not identify the belt needed so I had to get one by trial and error. After having the third belt slip off track and shred to pieces, no reply from the seller with any kind of assistance, I gave up and went looking for a better solution. I found the site for Novak and ordered their bracket for the R4 compressor. The quality of the brackets were stunning and the end result looks completely oem. The compressor doesn't vibrate anymore and it actually sits lower so I have more room for the air intake. The first bracket cost $300 and the second one cost $300. I would have paid more just to eliminate the expense of shredded belts and frustration. My .02 cents is actually closer to $700.00
My suggestion would be to order the Novak bracket and drive around with an ice chest full of cold drinks until your parts arrive.

    I'm just say'n...

I saw the Novak setup from your other post, and it looks like a nice kit for the same money. I called them up to order it, and he said they were out and it would be about 3 weeks before the machine shop got to make some more. But that was one week ago so about half way there now I guess.

Will more than likely just suck it up and wait, also tried email the other one I think your talking about but no reply.

So Novak is winning so far in at least communication.

Also Zrod what did you do for your air filter and intake ducting?

The Novak should work, but only if someone is using the truck accessories on the front of the engine. If your using the Vette or F-body accessories, I don't think the Novak bracketry will work.

That is correct- Their kit will only work on the Vortec truck engine brackets.... but it does work.

I'll have to agree that the Novak kit would be worth the wait. I switched to their setup after I could not stop the belt from being thrown off what I had been using.

And for an air intake?? I just used some 3.5" exhaust pipe and made my own.
