Watsup guys, not new to the site, just finally signed up. I have a 02 Sierra, singlecab stepside, 4.8. I am currently waiting on this shadetree mechanic to install a 14 blt. With Detroit locker, 4.10's, and discs, I gave him the money and rearend at the end of November..... But anyway I plan on 6.0/4l80e swap this summer, just looking for a GOOD HONEST shop somewere fairly close

Welcome to LS1Truck! I'm in East Texas as well. And that seems a little long to install a rearend. 6 Months?

I usually deal with Jesse James at Eagle Motorsports there in Tyler. Not sure if he does the rear end work, but he can get any parts you can imagine and he's usually very reasonable on his pricing. I've done some work for other customers of his like TIG welding on a cobra replica and some other stuff, so he helps me quite a bit when i have question or i need something.

Dude I've been to church with him before, him and my grandpa were tight, weird. Any suggestion on a shop to drop in a motor? I don't think eagle does that, I could be wrong though?

personally, i don't know many of the shops around tyler, there is a really good one here in palestine for a straight swap without much conversion. i will tell you though, i took an engine to Kenny's Auto Machine shop in Flint, TX because he was highly recommended. Everybody swears by his race engines, but unfortunately, my engine has been there since February 2nd and to my knowledge he hasn't touched it yet.
so i'm not sur ei would go there if i needed engine work again. i've also heard great things about ray's engine in tyler.

    Kenny's

I bought a Burn Victim 6.0L lq4 from a 2003 2500HD. truck burned to the ground, intake manifold melted all over the top. it was nasty to say the least, so a couple of trips to the carwash and two can each of oven cleaner and degreaser, i had the engine pretty clean. took it home disassembled it, found out it needed to be bored out because water had sat in the cylinders and pitted the walls with rust.

So i took it to kennys and this is what i told him to do. Deck the block, line hone the mains and cam journals, vat the block, replace all the bearings and put a good set of forged pistons on the stock rods. he then said he wouldn't warranty the shortblock so i would have to do the assembly myself.

i could understand if it took him a little while to get the work done, but he hasn't even touched it except for dropping it in a vat to clean it.

and every time i call him, he says he'll get to it soon, monday, wednesday, all kinds of excuses. i'm tired of waiting

For motor work I always went to T&k on 155 towards the flint/Gresham area. If your comin from the loop on 155 you'll go past time out and before you get to 346/2661 it's on the right hand side. Can't miss it there are some good lookin hotrods outside. Talk to Chevy he is the owner and the brains behind it all. I belive he installed a dyno and the end of last year so you can get before and after numbers.

I just left lindale in october last year and I was always lookin for another ls truck guy around town. Oh well I'll be back someday lol. Chevy has done my headwork on my truck and past dirt cars. He does a very good job and his prices were never crazy. Let us know how it goes
