Thread: 4L80E needs help!

    Ok I got all the switches and solenoids changed as well as a new internal harness. The truck drives MUCH better now. I have first gear no problem. But now I have unveiled some new problems. The 1-2 shift is very sluggish and very hard when it does shift. It seems delayed. It kinda pauses for a sec in the middle of a shift. But, it shifts like it has a shift kit in it. And the longer the pause in the 1-2 shift the harder it shifts. Also, still no 4th gear or tcc lockup. Im gonna clear and check DTCs tomorrow and go from there. Right now Im thinking external wiring issue.

    Edit: fourth gear comes and goes. sometimes I have it and sometimes I dont. still no tcc lockup.

    Cleared and rechecked the DTCs today. "TCC PWM solenoid electrical fault" code still remains. Still thinking external wiring issue.
    Any Ideas?

    Showed my wiring guy this... 4L60E to 4L80E Wiring Swap - PerformanceTrucks.net Forums and he says he put pin T in location U instead of S into location U. Should explain the problem. We are going to fix it friday night.

    Still unsure about the 1-2 shift issue. Probably need the second vss plugged in. Any idea where I can get another vss plug and pigtail?

    Changed the pin location in the main trans connector and it fixed it. I have TCC lockup now. Check engine light came back on tho.
    Still have the weird 1-2 shift problem. Guess Ill hunt down another vss connector.

    OK sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm still having trans problems.
    I FINALLY hooked up the other vss yesterday after driving it for 1.5 years like it was. I hooked it up and cleared the codes and everything was honky dory last night. It was shifting smoother and better and wasnt delaying shifts when i was hard on the throttle. Plus, it didnt choke up so much when idleing through a parking lot or parking etc.
    Today, on the way to school the check engine light came back on but it still shifted fine. Later, on the way to the parts store to borrow the scanner it wouldnt lock tcc. It would try but just lock and unlock rapidly. Scanned the code: P1810 TFP valve switch malfunction. This is the same code I've been having since day one with this transmission even after replacing every switch inside it. I cleared the code but it came back on as soon as I hopped on the highway and tried to lock the converter at about 60mph.
    Now it wont lock the converter at all! Before I hooked up the front vss the converter locked fine on the highway.

    HELP!????
