Add Aux port to factory 88-94 radio head unit?

Is it possible to add an auxillary input port to a factory 88-94 head unit? My reason for doing this instead of just adding a new headunit that is placed under the center a/c vents, is because I was wanting to add a three gauge single din pod in this spot. Im not a big fan of the A-pillar gauge pods.

    Thanks for the help,

    Dylan

It shouldn't be too hard to use an aux in lieu of the tape player. Never done it nor heard the question asked, but like I've always said; "anything is possible with the right tools, know-how, determination, and balls".

I remember people doing this back in the day, but honestly the stock stereo in those trucks is pretty crappy. You could always put your gauges where the factory control unit is now.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Not only is the radio junk, but a 4x6 is about the sorriest excuse for a speaker I have seen. I can't remember how many of those trucks I did 6.5s in the doors with a new radio. You could also build a console for a new radio.

Well i have done some more research..

I want to go directly from my MP3 player to the speakers in my car. I dont want a head unit of any sort. I know this can be done with the use of an amp with audio inputs. I have found some mini stereo amps but all seem to be of low quality.I need volume adjustment on the amp to assist in the volume coming from the ipod. I dont really want to spend more than $100, and I dont know what type of amperage i need for the factory speakers. I dont listen to music too loud, but i dont want it to sound like trash.

I will do this on my mustang (mach 460 stereo) and my truck (2 dash speakers and two tweeters).

Here are a couple of examples of what i have found:

    Any amp suggestions?

    Thanks for the help,

    Dylan

That could be kinda cool. Disassemble it and mount the knobs in some black plexi glass...... Maybe add a clock the same color as the a/c display..... Put the panel where the original radio goes. It could be kinda different, not the route I would take personally but I can kinda see something there. If you have the right skills you could do the same with any radio too, I did something similar with a ps2 once. Mounted the disc tray, eject and power buttons(modified), and controller ports in a panel and ran the guts to a different location.
