ok here is the prob. i am ditching the 4.8 in my stepside and getting a bigger engine. but am not sure which one is better. i plan to add a sts in like two years in the future . so keep that in mind i will need one that will handle that nicely. so i pose you the question 5.7 or 6.0? and any other thoughts that might help me.

IMO, it doesn't matter which way you go. Most guys keep their boost around 10-12psi. Both engines can take it. I have a customer running 16ps on his SS and another customer running 12psi on his stock LS1 fbody.
Both are hauling ass and are very strong.

So with that in mind, build the engine like you want it until you get the turbo. The most you'll have to do is change the cam when it's time to install the turbo. If you decide to build it up NA.

I'd say, go with the engine that's the best deal, they're both going to run strong.

    good luck,

Alright, now I have sort of a "follow up" to this question: if you use a LS1 in your truck, would the engine be better off with the LS1 intake or your vortec intake off the 4.8 or 5.3?

I would stick with the truck intake its just as good and intead of spending all that money for a LS1 or LS6 intake rails and exc. you could be saving up for a STS kit.

No, what I mean is if i have, say, a 5.3L that i am swapping for an LS1, which intake manifold should I use?

The LS1 intake is better than the truck intake in some aspects but not so good in others. Both intakes are good but not as good as a LS6 or FAST intake. As for engines, the LQ9 is hard to beat since it comes with LS6 style heads. When and if you go to get the STS you will need to put in some forged low compression pistons. The LS1 is nice since its 100 lbs lighter but it's not quite as sturdy as cast iron when you go all out performance. They drag race the LS1 more for weight reduction and they resleeve the blocks for more displacement but it costs a fortune to have an LS1 resleeved with Darton sleeves. An LS2 engine block, 6.0L, would be cool to have to build up since you'll have displacement and light weight. Allen had the right idea, stroker kit!
