Thread: What Stall speed?

    What Stall speed?

Well I am working on a parts list for the 4l80 conversion. I need to figure out what stall speed to get. I am thinking 2800 to 3000. Turbo charged LQ9 with a small cam now and eventually will go with a lingenfelter gt2-3 cam with the specs below.
    207/220 .571/.578 w 1.7 rocker 118.5 CL

My current cam is 208º/214º .554"/.559" with a 114º lobe center. Too small but I will have to run it for another year at least.

4.10 gears with a whopping 8lbs of boost for now.

    Tires are 31.5" in diameter.

I will be going with a Precision Industrys stall. I do tow a 14' enclosed trailer occasionally and I already have a large transmission cooler and temp gauge.

I appreciate everyones thoughts on this. So please tell what stall speed you think I should go with and why.

Almost forgot. Truck is 5400lbs in street trim.

Are you going to keep the AWD with the 4l80?

I'd suggest the 3000. You can never go too big really.

honestly for whaty ou want id stay with stock converter. with brake boosting it the converter will see about 3200 which is what you want anyways. its also stock so youll remain your towing ablity

stock 80e converter is about 2500-2600 being awd it should hold much better like stated around 3200 with boosted launch
    2002 Lightning - GT headed 5.5Litre w/ Twin 7665s

Oh yeah I refuse to give up the awd. All I need is the input gear for the transfer case.

Anyone care to explain the differences in the diameter of the the torque converters? Does the smaller one spin up faster? What size is a stocker?

quicker rev'ing due to less rotating mass. You will have a smaller clutch assy inside the smaller convertor so multiple disc option is highly recommended in a truck.
