Thread: LQ9 main bearing cap order

    LQ9 main bearing cap order

    Hi guys, were working on a 6.0 LQ9 and we had one of our part time workers pull the motor apart, were getting ready to re-assemble it but the problem is the worker forgot what order the main bearing caps were. They are numbered 1 through 5, right now we have 4 of the 5 numbers lined up, if we try to line up the main bearing with the number 5 it creates a big gap between the cap and the block, also there the notches where the main bearings go do not line up. Another problem were having is that on numbers 2-4 the notches all don't line up. Every motor I have built the notches have always lined up, but if we switch the numbers 2-4 around to make the notches line up it creates more gaps. I have posted pictures below.





    On the next picture you can see the notchs lined up on the number 1 cap



    and here is the number 2 cap where the notch isn't lined up



    Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    all the pointed sides go towards the trans end and the trans end cap points forwards per the pics

    Sometimes #5 if I remember correctly is going the other way. I've seen a handful like that.
