3200 Stall and Now a Tranny Leak

Hey guys, I installed a Yank 3200 stall and now Im having a transmission leak problem. Yall think it is probably the front seal where I ran the converter up on there? I've heard about that happening if you hit the seal the wrong way or something. The thing is, I cant really see where it is coming from, but there are two drips on the two little inspection ports on the bottom of the tranny... This sucks though huh? I dont really feel like taking that thing down again. It was a pain in the ass when you dont have a lift. Could the leak be coming from anywhere else? Is there something I could put in the fluid to help it not leak? How bad is this for the tranny? can it hurt it or the converter at all or just be annoying? thanks guys

Sounds like you didn't have the converter fully seated on the input shaft before you re-installed the trans. If that's the case, you probably snapped the keys on the pump when you bolted the bell housing back up to the block. I'm gonna go with pump damage - VERY bad

dang that sounds a little harsh. really? Some other guy on another forum said that I probably should have installed a new seal when i put the converter in there... hopefully nicked the seal or something. When I seated the converter I measured everything once it was on there and it was at the right depth. So I dont think that I "pulled" it up there when I installed the bell housing. It seated flush on the motor before I put a bolt in there. any more advice? thanks

If you properly installed the coverter onto the input shaft, bolted the bell housing up FIRST, then slid the conveter forward to meet the flexplate, I would have to retract my previous statement. As far as the seal, I've never had a problem with it and I've swapped my trans TWICE!!

yes that is exactly what i did. I had yank on the phone while doing it and they walked me through getting it up on there and then it would spin freely and It was back in there pretty far. I then bolted it back up and measured the distance... it needed shimming so i did that and slid it forward and bolted it up with loctite and all. It performs great and the tranny runs cool. So I think its all ok. I just think it might be leaking a little bit. Do you think it is "OK" it just needs a new seal then? anyway to slow the leak? how long could it live like that? you think?

If the trans is leaking fluid, then I would just keep an eye on the fluid level until you get to the bottom of the issue. Then again it just may be residual fluid from the install.

hopefully its residual... but i have a feeling its not. I wiped it yesterday and now after driving today there are a couple more drips. It's been a few weeks since the install and I feel like it would have dried already... but i guess its possible.

If it's been that long then it can't be residual fluid. I hate to say it but your seal might be leaking or maybe an issue with the pump. You will probably have to pull the trans back out. Trust me I know how much of a hassle it is to pull a trans without a lift.

that sux specially after you just took the tranny out, then install it and then a leak accures!!!

deffinately the seal, from whats been said and described.. but if i was you i would get it taken care of, this way you dont have to worry about anything, if you spaced everything out and shimmed it properly i doubt its the pump also change the O ring.. incase it has a nick on it

Damn--that sucks that it starts leaking after a converter swap...

Next time you seat the converter, turn the input shaft so that the keyways are at 12 and 6 OR 3 and 9. Then line up the converter so the tabs are at the same position and then slider it on. You may still have to spin/wiggle it back and forth a little to make sure you get it fully seated.
